Kanab was a pleasant surprise. It is a small touristy town, now in winter very quiet. And beside the fact that Utah apparently did not yet ban plastic utensils from use, there are a number of residents who are active in promoting and living a sustainable life style. We dined in the
Peekaboo Canyon Wood Fired Kitchen, a vegetarian restaurant and the
Rocking V Cafe, when you are in the area give both of them a try and have a great chat with the locals about sustainability, some hiking recommendations or the wonders of the world - you will be happy you did so.
So much about Kanab. We chose it as our base for the tours we had planned to Bryce, Zion and the Grand Staircase. First, we drove up North to Bryce Canyon. On the drive there it was bitter cold. Ice on the trees and shrubs from the early morning fog, but clear skies. And Bryce Canyon greeted us as a true fairy tale land. We hiked along the rim from Sunset Point to Sunrise Point and then down the Canyon. The roundtrip brought us back up Sunset Point, passing Thor's Hammer. It was great fun and really warm in the end.
